THE GREAT DAY ARRIVES.  Leaving the Windmill in Denton by minibus at 8:15 in the morning, we arrive at Woodbank CC to be provided with an execllent full cooked breakfast, courtesy of Woodbank (great start).

9:30 the walk begins, 1 tiger, 2 convicts, 4 pirates, Darth Vader, 1 clown, 1 court jester, 1 mexican bandit, Dorothy (Wizard of Oz), 1 beer drinking Superhero, and our official Pac-man photographer.

Early on not many people around but those we did encounter were quick ot dip their hands in their pockets.

Serenaded by many a car horn we stopped for a breif photo shoot at Bury Town Hall before meeting slightly larger crowds through the shopping areas of Whitefield and Prestwich.

First pit stop at 11:15 at Prestwich CC.  Always fine hosts, they made a great donation of £50 from the club and supplied some courtesy amber liquid for refreshment.

Leaving at 11:30, we then hit the barren wastelands of Sedgeley Park and Broughton, not much bucket action going on and so we were glad to arrive at the outskirts of Manchester City Centre, having made sure our 2 convicts made it past Strangeways.

12:45 we hit Shambles Square and vast crowds of City fans sitting outside the pubs made an excellent stationary target and we started to get some good donations.

A split in the walkers to maximise collecting potential saw one group head up towards Market Street and the drinking dens of Piccadilly whilst the rest walked Deansgate and John Dalton Street to Albert Square and a quick photo shoot on the Town Hall steps at 13:30.  Then back along Cross Street and Market Street to re-unite in Piccadilly.  Stationary targets outside pubs and in bus queues proved the easiest to extract cash from, moving targets such as shoppers far more difficult.

And then the 2nd barren stretch as we headed up Hyde Road through Ardwick and West Gorton.  14:30, only on arrival at Tesco's at Gorton did we encounter any numbers of people, but a boost to the collection at this point did lift the spirits of some weary walkers.

With West now firmly in our sights, a brief encounter with a load of Morris Dancing groups at the Neslon as part of some Celebration of Gorton proved a bonus, but did make us concede that we were at best runners-up in the days fancy dress competition.

News of a good batting performance by the boys at West came through and we trudged, limped, and hobbled back onto home turf.  Gathered at the lane to the club for mass entry we were greeted by a rousing cheer from the gathered West faithful.

We had done it.  25 km with the buckets.  The bucket collection raised about £700 and between this site and other off line sponsorship the total raised stands at over £3100 and still rising.

A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE SO GENEROUSLY GIVEN !!!

West complete a comfortable victory to wrap up a great day, the league title, the double, and a fantastic season for the club.
