Story
Thank you for visiting Rory Souter and Mark Hewlett's Marie Curie fundraising page. We're raising money for both Marie Curie and the Multiple Sclerosis Society. If you'd prefer to donate to our other charity, MS Soc, please go to www.justgiving.com/dwmss
So, Mark and I are glad to say we completed the 125 mile Devizes to Westminster Canoe Race over the Easter weekend in a time of 24hrs 23 mins.
It was a big shout for us as we'd only been 35 miles in our previous training but determination and abit of hard work saw us through. Everything went according to plan, starting in Devizes at 7.20 am and paddling straight through the night and arriving at the Westminster bridge the next morning. We came 38th out of 90 starters so we were pretty chuffed.
Your sponsorship helped us through alot, we had to dig deep in the dead of night and especially when we reached the tidal part of the Thames at Teddington which was when the real agony started - we were pretty much home, but the last 18miles was tortuous. We were elated to get to the end and it was a great team effort. Mega thanks go to our support team who kept us going, Trend, Jane from D to Reading, Ben, Lizzie and Chris for going through the night to feed and water us. Great experience and highly recommended if you like pain and a numb bum, if you know what I mean.
Funds are still being accepted! Anything donated here will go straight to Marie Curie, a great cancer charity providing nursing at home for the terminally ill. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Marie Curie Cancer Care will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. So please sponsor us now! Many thanks for your support. Rory and Mark
