2015 has been a year of mixed emotions. In May Karen and I became the proudest of parents following the birth of our son Joshua. Sadly at the same time Karen's Nan, Ruth, was desperately fighting her battle against Cancer. After months of treatment and a strong desire to return to her family home Ruth regrettably lost her battle and passed away in hospital in mid August.
As part of my continued efforts to raise money for Cancer Research UK I had already signed up for the 2015 Outlaw Triathlon, a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile cycle and 26.2 mile Marathon run. I am delighted that I was able to successfully cross the line in 14 hours 37 minutes. The weather certainly tried its best to defeat me as the rain swept in to make the cycle and run particularly challenging, but there was no way I was going to let it beat me!
This page is now being used as a memorial fund towards Ruth Bastone so that family and friends can make donations towards her memory. In the eighteen years I have known Ruth since meeting Karen, it has always amazed me how selfless she is and her willingness to help and organise others, especially within her Women's Institute (WI) and the Woodhatch community. Despite Ruth always seeming like she was on the move and busy with planning the WI trips, holidays, Turkey and Tinsel coach parties or playing darts, she was never too busy to be a devoted Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother. I know how proud she was of all of her family which could be seen on the most amazing display on her living room walls covered in photographs from all generations!
As well as remembering Ruth, this page is also intended to pay tribute to those still fighting their battle with Cancer and to all those who have lost their lives to this dreadful disease. Hopefully the money raised will make a difference!
Please be as generous as you can with your donations. Your support is always a huge incentive for me. I only do this so that hopefully one day we can rid the World of Cancer which is still one of the UK's biggest killers and does effect us all at some point in our lives.
