Here we go again...... After running the marathon in 2008 I promised myself that I would never again have to do 18 miles along the canal through the mud, or a soggy 20 miler around the local streets covered with frost, and battle against the wind a rain along lonely country lanes.
"No way will I do another marathon. Not with these knees" - Yeh right !
Then my son, Rob got a ballot place for the first Virgin London Marathon and asked me to do it with him. After regaining consciousness and getting the feeling back in my arms and legs I remembered the feeling as you cross the finish line of the worlds greatest race, and when he said about raising money for Action Heart I thought, Why not, it's only 26.2 miles...... ( The .2 is very important ).
I have pledged to raise £1000 for this most worthwhile of causes, and thank them for giving me a charity place and the chance to do this great event with my son.
Coronary heart disease is now the biggest killer in the uk and Action Heart are dedicated to the prevention of this condition. Their exercise and education programme enables patients to return to normal everyday life much fitter, stronger and with renewed confidence.
Action Heart are acknowledged as one of the largest and most comprehensive programmes in the uk and treat in excess of 600 patients per week at their rehab centre at Russells Hall Hospital.
