Story

Hi everyone!

As I'm sure you know, my name is Damen Griffiths. I am a 19 year old who's mountaineering experience includes... well, I got to the top of Snowdon once.

Despite this, I'm attempting the Welsh 3000s for Nightingale House Hospice sometime in July (once I finalise the date I'll put it straight on here!). You probably haven't heard of at least one of these things, so here's a quick background:

The Welsh 3000s is a challenge where you have to have been at the top of all 14 mountains over 3000 feet in the space of 24 hours (fortunately they're all within 24 miles of each other, which is a bit nicer than being at opposite ends of the country!). Its very similar to the more well known 'three peaks challenge', but is regarded as a step up. More info on it, if you're especially interested, is here http://www.14peaks.com/index.php - I am planning on completing the challenge within the 24 hours set time, however if you're willing to give a donation and double it if I say, ever managed to do it in 12 hours (highly unlikely but I may as well test myself!) then those sort of donations are gratefully received too!

Nightingale House is a charity that provides free of charge palliative care to patients suffering from life-limiting illnesses and their families in the North East Wales area. More of their aims can be seen here http://www.nightingalehouse.co.uk/, but I assure you they do the most fantastic work! However, they run entirely on donations and have done ever since the beginning, which is why they need all the help they can get. Utilising an inpatient unit, a day unit as well as offering emotional and bereavment support, Nightingale House obviously can't get to everyone that needs to and if your donations to me help even one extra person that wouldn't have got the help before, it'll be a success.

Now I'm far from the fittest 19 year old you'll ever meet, and I'm also far from an experience mountaineer. However, in the build up to this I am going to train like I've never trained before and put all my efforts into making sure I can do this challenge in the 24 hours set, and I have 4 months to get myself into gear and do it. So please, let me do all the hard work and just give what you can for an amazing charity, and I promise I'll keep you updated along the way!
