Hi

I've decided to do something for charidee....all support is greatly appreciated. Here's what I'm up to ;

The Challenge

On 16th July 2011, my sister Liz, my friend Ash and myself will be embarking on the challenge of a lifetime (well of my lifetime at least!) - an unsupported cycle ride the length of the country from the southernmost tip at Lands End to the northernmost point at John O Groats

We are aiming to complete this arduous journey in under a fortnight, covering an average of 80 miles a day, with no rest days. That's well over 1000 miles in total - I think it can technically be done in 864 miles but we didnt really fancy the M1, and preferred a tad less traffic and a bit more scenery!

We'll be carrying all our own equipment and luggage in panniers, and staying at B&B's along the route which we have pre-booked so there's no slippage built into the schedule - we have to grind out the pre-allotted miles every day!

The plan is to arrive hopefully in one piece in John O Groats on Friday 29th July, and hit the bar about 5 minutes later!

The Worthy Cause

My plan is to try and raise £1000 for the Heartlink Childrens Charity who are based at Glenfield Hospital in Leicester. Link : http://www.heartlink-glenfield.org.uk/

They are a fantastic local charity that help and support children with heart defects and their families. Through their many efforts they have provided specialist heart scanning equipment, ward improvements, a support line, a heli-pad at the hospital for the most urgent cases and much much more.

There is a personal reason for choosing this charity too, namely my 3 year old nephew, Josh. He suffers from a serious heart condition which he has had since birth, and has benefitted throughout from the first class facilities and support available at Glenfield hospital in conjunction with Heartlink. During these difficult times my sister in law Paula and her husband Steve have experienced at first hand the amazing facilities and support this charity provides. It has been vital to them and so many other families in times of severe personal stress and upheaval ... and long may it continue.

Heartlink are currently raising money for a 4D Ultrasound Scanner for Glenfield which weighs in at a hefty £161,000. This piece of equipment will make a big difference to diagnosis and hence correct treatment ( you can read about it in more detail using the link earlier )

If you'd like to support me in my challenge to raise money for this worthy cause, then please follow the instructions below. If you'd rather donate "offline" then that's fine too as I have an Old Skool sponsorship form. Either way your support is greatly appreciated and will help to get me across the finishing line.
