My story

It is just over 10 years since my Auntie (Pamela Mary Lorains) passed away after a long and brave fight against cancer.

Her four children/my cousins (Tom, Kate, Martha and Mary) and my Uncle Bill have continued to support and raise funds for the Blythe House Hospice in Chapel-en-le-Frith (www.blythehouse.info/), which provided an enormous amount of comfort and support for Auntie Pam and the family throughout her illness and continues to play an important and incredible role in supporting people with cancer and other life threatening illnesses.

You will find some pictures attached from a sponsored fancy dress walk my cousins arranged before Christmas, where people were asked to dress as something beginning with "P" for Pamela.

I am very keen to support the fundraising effort and the fantastic work done by the staff at the hospice and in a moment of madness, clearly thinking I was a lot fitter than it turns out I am, I decided to run the Wilmslow Half Marathon on Sunday 25 March 2012.

I need all the motivation I can get and I have an incredible amount of training to do just to ensure I can finish the race, so I would be enormously grateful if you could donate anything you can towards this great cause.

Rest assured this will be the only sporting challenge I will be attempting for a very long time so please dig deep!

Blythe House Hospice, Chapel-en-le-Frith,

The hospice offers free, individualised, holistic care and support for anyone  living with cancer or other serious, life threatening illness. Discovering what's important, being offered practical help and advice and exploring new ways of coping enables people to live their lives to the full through an often difficult and stressful time. Clients are welcomed as guests and a range of  group or individual services is available for them, their carers, family and friends. Support groups such as Carer's Day, Stepping Stones, Breast Care and Circle of Friends meet on a regular basis.

Blythe House Hospice

Charity Registration No. 1031192

Situated in Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire, Blythe House Hospice is High Peak's only day-care hospice. The principal activity of the hospice is the provision of specialist palliative care services and support for people with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses and the extension of support to their families. The services we provide are free to the user but not cost free. We receive less than one-third of our essential running costs from the local Primary Care Trust and we aim to raise £6000 from charitable donations each week. A £2.50 donation will pay for lunch for one of our clients, £10 will provide art therapy equipment, £20 will pay for a complementary therapy session, £30 means someone will receive a much needed counselling session. Every donation makes a difference. Thank you for your support.
