My story

Hello and thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

As some of you are already aware, the four of us are planning on spending over 2 weeks trekking around the Himalayan mountains of Nepal in October. The main aim of this trek is to reach Everest base camp and to climb Kala Patar which has an altitude of just over 5,600m, which for anyone who has been to that altitude knows, is pretty high!

We plan to trek about 150km during this trip and the lowest altitude we will be at is in Lukla which is still over 2,800m. This will be a challenging trip staying fit and healthy during this trek, as well as staying warm and dry whilst sleeping at such high altitudes where the temperatures can plummet well below freezing at night.

Our trip is entirely self-funded - we are paying for flights, equipment, food, etc with our own money, however we thought it would be a nice thing to give something back to the local communities who help provide facilities, so that normal everyday folks can experience this amazing region of the world.

Nepal is the 12th poorest country in the world and has a sever shortage of schools, teachers and everyday equipment that we take for granted. Classroom in the clouds is a small charity that has been raising money to improve facilities at a local school in Lukla, which is a village we will be passing through on our travels. The charity has managed to raise enough money to almost complete building work on the school, but now need funds in order to pay for teachers, IT equipment, uniforms and every other item that help with the childrens education. The school also needs money to pay for on-going maintenance of the school and for any future improvements. For more information please check out the following website - http://www.classroomintheclouds.org/

It costs £1,200 per year to pay for a teachers salary and £4,000 is currently needed to buy 12 pc's and to connect them to the internet

It would be fantastic if between the four of us we could raise as a minimum £1,200 and pay for a teacher to work at the school for a year, but any donation that you can give will make an incredible difference to the children of this region. As this is a small charity 100% of donations received go towards the school with no admin fees etc taken out.

We hope to be able to visit the school when we get to Lukla in order to see how the money is being spent, and the difference it has made to the community.
