BUPA Great Birmingham Run 2011 · 23 October 2011 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Yes, I've gone and done it again, and signed up for the Birmingham Half Marathon again - though now it's called the BUPA Great Birmingham Run.

Last year everyone was SO generous, including plenty of people on Twitter and Facebook I'd never even met before. The sum raised, with Gift Aid, was well into four figures - which made me immensely proud, and I'm sure has been put to good use by the people at the Alzheimers Society.

I've chosen the same charity again as, some of you will know, my dad was diagnosed with this dreadful disease some three years ago - he's still with us, and is managing the illness as best as can be expected. One day, hopefully, there'll be means of cure, or better still prevention so that other families don't have to have the suffering and anguish that mine, and millions of others have to go through.

So, I know it's hard, but please dig deep, and push a few quid my way. Let's try and beat last year's total, and in return I promise to beat last year's time - 2hr 18min 16sec (not bad, considering I stopped for a "Paula Radcliffe" after a few hundred yards...).

There'll be training updates and general chit chat about the race on my Twitter feed - @danohagan.

Thanking you all in advance.
