Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This year I'm going to take on what will be the biggest challenge of my life - all in the name of raising a lot of money for some very deserving charities.

In 2019, I'm going to take part in 12 big runs - as the name of the challenge suggests - dragging myself more than 200 miles in the hope that it can inspire a few people to throw a few pounds my way to help out those who need it more than me/us.

Some people may remember I challenged myself to run three marathons in three months a few years ago for charity. That was tough enough. This time there are more runs, a much greater distance, and my current fitness levels are worrying.

While I've let December and its array of tantalising treats get the better of my waistline and running schedule, I'm back pounding the pavements, proving to myself and anyone who'll lend me an ear that running these kind of distances is an achievable challenge. It's going to take a good amount of dedication - and my will power is going to have to finally overcome my love of beer and Quavers - but it'll be worth it in the long run.

Beginning on February 3rd at the Watford half marathon, I'll also be taking part in the Baldock Beast (a half marathon in my home town), as well as half marathons at Queen Elizabeth Park in London and at Knebworth House, as well as the Great North Run*.

With a couple of 10ks thrown in, I'll also be running marathons in Manchester, Milton Keynes and on the banks of the Thames, before 'going home' to tackle the Yorkshire Marathon in October.

I'm doing it in aid of Clic Sargent, as last time, and Barnsley Hospital's Tiny Hearts Appeal.

I'm lucky in that I get to spend each and every day with my kids. They are my pride and joy and I can't imagine anything different. However, some people aren't as lucky as I am - and the cruellest disease of all - cancer - affects a lot of children.

I'm looking to raise money for those who help make that situation less difficult. The fantastic staff at Clic Sergeant that are there by parents' side at every step - helping to make an awful situation that little bit better.

The Tiny Hearts appeal is a very special campaign launched by Barnsley Hospital Charity in September 2014 and aims to raise £1 million to help support the relocation and development of a brand new Neonatal Unit. The new unit aims to provide an even better standard of care for all the special care babies and the most comfortable environment for all families and staff on the unit. I have friends who speak very highly of the incredible work done by the staff at the hospital, and it was important for me to support a cause closer to home.

Although this page is solely for Clic Sargent, it is linked with a seperate page for Tiny Hearts, and I'd love it if the two were balanced. Please take that into account if you can afford to donate.

Thank you to anyone who read this far, you can follow my progress on Instagram at @dan_big12challenge. Thanks for the support - I'll keep this page up to date too.

Love Dan x
