Thanks for making it this far. I need you to help us make it a bit further...

This June I will be riding my bicycle with the Fireflies team from Innsbruck to Cannes through the Italian and French Alps, and taking on many iconic climbs of the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia, not least the fearsome Stelvio Pass. 

On the eight day tour, we will ride a total of 1000kms and climb the equivalent of Everest – nearly three times over. It’s really difficult. Much better cyclists than me have returned from previous tours saying it’s the hardest thing they’ve ever done. I’ve been training for months and dropped more than a few kilos, but I’m still terrified of the challenge. Plus, I’m scared of heights.

Why?

Because cancer.

One in three of us will be diagnosed with some form of cancer in our lifetimes, and research suggests that leukaemia could be the key to understanding all other forms of cancer. Bloodwise raises fund to support life-saving research into the causes and treatment of leukaemia and other blood cancers, and it’s working. Where they have invested, survival rates and quality of life for survivors have improved.

But there’s lots more work to be done.
