We care for children with shortened lives to support them and their families.

Story

As a lot of you will know, last year we lost my beautiful nephew Jack. Jack was a gorgeous boy with a smile to light up any room and it goes without saying that losing him has been hard for all the family.

At the end of Jack's life he spent time at Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice. The hospice had a bedroom for the family to stay, provided meals, fun activities and games for Jack's brothers, allowed unlimited visitors and the Care Team did everything possible to provide emotional and practical support through this very difficult time.

All this from an organisation that is only 10% government funded and relies on donations and fundraising to be able to provide the amazing service and invaluable help to families at the toughest possible times in their lives.

As a way of showing appreciation for the care that Bluebell Wood provided during Jack`s illness, and the support they continue to offer, I am undertaking a number of challenges throughout the year with an initial aim of raising £1,500.

These challenges will be both individual, and challenges that will involve friends and family. There are currently the following events planned over the 5 months ending 13th October:

- 54 hole golf challenge; along with my Dad and a few other friends, we will attempt to complete a 54 hole golf challenge on Friday 7th June 2019 (starting approximately 7.00am, and finishing hopefully around 12/13 hrs later), completing every hole tee-to-cup.

- Yorkshire 3 peaks; a 24 mile route covering Yorkshire's 3 highest peaks of Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, includes 5,200ft of ascent in under 12 hours.

- The National 3 peaks; the three highest peaks in England, Scotland and Wales. Considered one of Britain's toughest outdoor challenges, the National 3 Peaks Challenge takes in Ben Nevis (1,344m), Scafell Pike (978m) and Snowdon (1,085m), to be completed in a 24 hour period from start to finish.

- Round Rotherham 50 Mile Trail Race & Relay (12th October); a 50 mile trail run/walk around Rotherham to be completed by myself and family members covering the various legs through a combination of running, jogging, walking, crawling and whatever it takes for us to finish before time runs out.

- Manchester Half Marathon (13th October); whilst a run I trained for and have enjoyed in the past 2 years, this is the day after the Round Rotherham 50 mile race so I may enjoy this one a little bit less this time! I am however going to give it my best shot to complete it.

There may yet be more challenges added to the list, and football cards, raffles or other fundraising done over the summer. Any donations to this wonderful cause, however little would be hugely appreciated and would also personally mean a lot to me and my family.
