On October 2nd I'll be joining 11 other Groucho Club cyclists on a 500km ride from London to Bordeax to raise funds for a very worthwhile charity -  Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors/Without Borders (MSF), an international charity that delivers lifesaving medical care to the people who need it most, regardless of where they are, or whether their stories have hit the headlines.

More than 98 percent of their funding comes from people like you and me. 

This is important because it means they don't need to take money from governments, which allows them to remain independent, act quickly and go where the need is greatest.

For example, it meant that MSF was the first organisation to
respond to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, and swiftly scaled up operations when the disease spread. It meant they could respond within hours to the devastating cyclone in Mozambique and are often working in forgotten crises in countries like South Sudan and Democratic Republic of Congo.

Private donations mean they can send medical teams to help
people in unstable situations like the current conflict in Yemen, Iraq and
Syria, as well as to many other countries around the world.

I’d really appreciate your support and your donation however small would mean a lot to me and MSF.

• MSF use their funds wisely and to maximum effect:
• Just £14 buys a safe delivery kit, providing everything needed to assist in uncomplicated births that don’t require surgical intervention.
• £64 buys a field tent which can be used as a delivery room,
  operating theatre, and a ward where malnourished children receive treatment to grow healthy and strong.
• And £97 pays for a doctor for a day - this includes his or her transportation, training, travel documents, vaccines and lodging. It’s
  everything a doctor needs for a mission of working with populations at risk and saving lives.
