Story
So, at the ages of 56 and 53, me and Beverley are finally getting around to attempting the national three-peaks challenge which involves reaching the summit of Ben Nevis (1,345m (4,411ft)), Snowdon (1,085m (3,560ft)) and Scafell Pike (978m (3,209ft)), the three highest mountains in Scotland, Wales and England respectively, a total of 3,408m (11,180ft) and with the added pressure of doing it in 24 hours including the driving time between the mountains.
Why would I possibly want to do this? Well, from a personal perspective, as people who love spending time in the mountains, it’s been a long-held aim to attempt it to see if we're up to the challenge.
However, the logistics of the travelling involved means that dedicated support drivers are required, which is something that is not easy to arrange. As part of a team supported by Barclays, the opportunity has arisen to attempt the challenge as well as raising money for charity. The team is raising money for the East Cheshire Hospice, https://www.eastcheshirehospice.org.uk which specialises in care for adults suffering from life limiting illness, many of whom are in the end stage of their lives. This hospice celebrated its 30th year in 2018 which is no mean feat given that the vast majority of its funding is provided by donations, with minimal funding coming from central government. All proceeds of this fundraising by the three-peaks team will going directly to the hospice charity and will doubled up by a matching donation from Barclays. So, for us, this is the opportunity to give it a go and raise money to help support people facing more serious challenges than we'll be facing by walking several thousand feet up a few mountains. If you are able to support us in this challenge, please donate whatever you can at our JustGiving page. All donations, whatever the amount, are warmly welcomed and much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
