Story
As you might be aware in August 2011 i was diagnosed with the 5th leading cancer - Pancreatic Cancer. What you might not be aware of is that of the 8000 people diagnosed each year - 82% of those people will die within one year and that currently, there is only a 3% survial rate over five years.
I feel fortunate that having a fantastic team of doctors around me, my cancer was diagnosed early enough to enable me to have a Whipple operation. The operation was major surgery lasting 10 hours, resulting in a stay in High dependency. My stay in hospital was then followed by 6 months of intense chemotherapy.
With the love and support of my family and friends along with the positive strength and determination i had in me, i am currently free of the cancer and considered a 'survivor'.
Having been through what myself and my family have been through over the last 12 months it is extremely important to me to raise awarness of Pancreatic Cancer, by making people more aware of the symptoms and understand the risks of late diagnosis.
We need more people diagnosed in time for surgery - currently the only potential for a cure.
Saturday 24th November my wife and i will be 'striding for survival' - walking to raise awareness for Pancreatic cancer, so please dig deep in your pockets.
Huge thanks Dane
