I have suffered from tinnitus for over 2 and a half years now and it has only been during the last 6 months that i have received any help. I am running to try and raise money for the British Tinnitus Association (BTA) but also to try and raise the profile of the BTA especially within the Armed Forces.
I started suffering from tinnitus after an unfortunate training incident in Belize and have suffered from it alone for much of that time as, i feel, it is not fully understood in the Army.
Please donate to help the BTA so they can continue thier amazing work to help others like me suffering from tinnitus! Thanks to the advice from the BTA I have been able to sleep properly at night for the first time in over 2 years!!!!!
Finished the race yesterday! It was a rather long day though! i was up at 0600 to drive through to Glasgow and it wasnt an easy drive as im sure you can appriciate! driving in Glasgow isnt fun at the best of times and it was made worse by the closure of the Kingston Bridge so lots of thanx to dad for all the driving, running round after me and the photo taking!
The race started at around 1040 (10 mins late as the 10k run was prior and they had to make sure the route was clear) in the 10mins we waited around we found out that this was a record breaking run as over 20 000 people were compeeting! a very good turn out!
The first half a mile was very frustrating as the roads were narrow leaving very little room for over taking. More frustrating still was the fact that i got stuck behind a group of elderly people! i can understand on the street but not on a run however i soon relised they were in the same position as me as when theroads opened out a little and i started over taking some people these elderly people who had so frustrated me to begin with ver took me a such a fast pace that i never saw them again! rather embarasing!
Just before the first mile point we ran over the kingston bride (a section of motorway that had been closed for us to run accros!) this was probarbly the coolest part of the day and the support from the motorists waiting in a rather long que of trafic was rather nice, they were tooting there horns, waving and shouting encouragment to us and a fire engine eaven flashed its sirens to get our attention and waved at us as we ran along!
the route was paved the entire way with well wishers offering encouragement, sweets water and oranges. there was littlebands playing tunes to keep us going and there was piepers every mile playing some rely good music!
the run went well untill the 8th mile when i started to feel tired. up untill this point i was just taking it easy but at mile 8 i started to feel the effects! from then on it was becoming an increasing effort to maintain my pace but i managed it and crossed the finish line in 1hr 47mins (8.2min/miles). I am more than happy with that time for my first half marathone but the next time i run, m sure i will be able to beet that so now ive got something to aim for!
Not only have the BTA given me amazing help for my tinnitus but they were also very supportive prior to the run! i wish to say (if anyones still readin this and not gotten bored yet!) thank you very much to the BTA!!!!! your staff are incredably helpful and friendly and it has been a plesure to do this for you!
