My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Update Monday 21st Sep

The half marathon was run on a glorious Sydney spring morning, over the harbour bridge, through some inner west suburbs and ending up with a sweep round circular quay to finish in front of the opera house. Never have I been so happy to see that white shelled roof! My target of 1 hr 45 mins was beaten by a couple of minutes, which was immensley satisfying, but the run will be memorable for much more important reasons than just a finish time.

Thank you to everyone for your generous support.

Update Friday 18th Sep

Many thanks to everyone for your generous support, its much appreciated.

Training program now completed with just the odd minor niggle, and I will be aiming to knock around 8 mins off my previous half marathon time, and beat 1 hr 45 mins. While you are hopefully enjoying your saturday evening, I shall be chugging round the streets of sydney with that aim, and in the knowledge that we have raised a significant amount of money for a fantastic group.

Thanks again!

On Sunday 20th September, I will be running the Blackmores half marathon through the streets of Sydney, in order to raise money for Beechwood Cancer Care Centre. (www.beechwoodcancercare.org.uk). Beechwood is a day centre opened in 1990 to help anyone whose life has been affected by the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

As you will know, my wife Frances' eldest sister, Hayley, died in May after a long battle against cancer. Her courage was and continues to be an inspiration to her family and friends. Beechwood CCC not only supported her throughout her tough times, but continue to support her family and many others effected by cancer. Tragically, its a sign of how often this terrible disease strikes that so many of you will also have personal experience of its effects, and so you will know why any support we can offer organisations like BCCC is so important.
