Story

My Step-Sister Beth has Rett Syndrome, she is reliant on others for all her needs, 24hrs a day. Beth has been a part of my life for a long time now, and as i've watched her grow into a strong young lady, she has developed numerous serious health problems such as seizures due to epliepsy, loss of mobility due to scoliosis devlopment, and has most recently had an operation to have metal rods put in her back to straighten her spine. This ment 6 long weeks in hospital getting over her operation and some problems that came along with it, including physiotherapy to learn to sit up straight again. Through it all Beth is a happy child and comes through everything shes faced with such strength, to which i am always inspired by. I am proud to be a part of her life, and to call her my sister!

There is however hope for Beth and all the girls and women living with Rett Syndrome today. In 2007 Rett Syndrome was reversed in the lab. Rett Syndrome Research Trust UK was founded in June 2010 by my Step-Dad Andy, and four other parents specifically to fund research. They have raised over £500,000 for the research projects they support, and have won Best New Charity at the Charity Times Awards 2011 and Just Giving Awards 2012. On March 18th 2012 it was announced that Bone Marrow Transplants had arrested symptoms of Rett in the lab, this was a project partly funded by RSRT UK. This is where they spend your money.
