It helps every child who enters its doors to fulfil their potential and aspiration in life through education, good health and social welfare by offering security, hope, kindness, and above all, love. The Charity's focus is on the development of educational, health and social service initiatives in deprived, remote parts of Africa where other agencies have not ventured.

Story

Hello guys and girls, and welcome to The Lost World Project!

Please do have a read and sponsor whatever you can - any donations, however big or small will be much appreciated :)

So, whats the crack?

I'm walking Hadrian's Wall, 84 miles from Bowness-on-Solway to Wallsend in 48 hours starting 6am on the 15th April!! (and will put up video footage as evidence!) - did it 47 hours!!!

Disney Fancy Dress Day and Charity Cake Sale in Biological Sciences, Durham University - already done!!

Why?

To help save The Lost World and raise money for Ibex Earth's 12 environmental charities, including Ndoro's Children's Charity.

The Lost World Project

Mount Roraima is South America's ‘lost world’ - a colossal sandstone plateau that towers high above the surrounding rainforests and into the sky, encircled on all sides by sheer cliffs up to 600 metres tall. It is the plateau that inspired Arthur Conan Doyle to write the most famous adventure novel of all time - ‘The Lost World’ – and has more recently featured in Walt Disney’s latest blockbuster ‘UP’.

The summit is an ancient, isolated landscape dominated by labyrinths of twisted, towering rock pinnacles, drifts of sparkling quartz crystals and the tallest waterfalls on the planet. All of the plant and animal life of Roraima has remained isolated for millions of years and today is home to one of the greatest concentrations of unique flora and fauna found anywhere on Earth (check out the pics!).

But as Roraima becomes increasingly accessible and growing numbers of tourists visit, the plateau faces an uncertain future. Without urgent action, unsustainable and unregulated tourism, the introduction of foreign plants and animal species, illegal gold mining, wild fires and the collection of quartz crystals will jeopardise this beautiful lost world.

The Lost World Project is a unique not for profit initiative led by Ibex Earth to help raise awareness of the urgent conservation needs of Mount Roraima and support international efforts to secure UNESCO protection that will ensure a long-term future for this extraordinary plateau.

In August 2010, Ibex Earth will send 10 young adults who have raised the most money to join BBC Planet Earth cameramen in Venezuela, and shoot a 50-minute documentary, highlighting the urgent conservation needs of this ecologically important region.

These causes are really close to my heart, and if you could help me save at least a little bit of the world, that would be amazing! All money raised goes directly to Ibex Earth's 12 environmental and conservation partners. So please give whatever you can. Thank you so much.
