My story

Danny and Paul are rolling back the years in an effort to rediscover the fitness levels that they once possessed serving in the Royal Air Force.  We are running the London Marathon for the Prison Advice & Care Trust (pact) on 22nd April 2012.

Our stretch goal is to beat Paula Radcliffe...our realistic goal is to finish within four hours (and hopefully a bit quicker).

We are aiming to raise a minimum of £3,000 for pact.  With the prison population now at its highest level recorded, it is estimated that 200,000 children in the United Kingdom are affected by parental imprisonment each year. It is even more alarming that a greater number of children are affected by parental imprisonment than by divorce.  pact supports the ‘hidden victims’ of imprisonment by providing practical and emotional support to prisoners' children and families, and also to prisoners and ex-prisoners themselves.  pact is also delivering a parenting course to certain prisons in the UK with the aim of encouraging imprisoned parents to maintain contact with their children and to encourage them to spend quality time with their children during visits.

pact has been working in the Visitor's Centres of various prisons in England and Wales for some years; staff provide advice and support to prisoners'  families who often have nowhere else to turn.  Play workers provided by pact have also worked tirelessly in prison play areas to help ease the trauma and anxiety some children can feel when visiting a relative in prison.

Your support will enable pact to carry on making a real difference to families who desperately want to leave crime behind and build a better future for their children, themselves and the communities we all live in.  You can read more about the outstanding work that pact provides at www.prisonadvice.org.uk.

Our mission is to support prisoners, ex-offenders and families to make a fresh start. Pact gives real hope, practical and emotional support to those we help: children coping with the imprisonment of a parent, the prisoner contemplating suicide, the mother struggling to support her ex-offender son.
