Dear friends, thanks for taking the time - read on about Dan's Desert Dare:
Intro: I have escaped the Cairo riots to Luxor and a marathon begins in about 14hours time
The dare: a ballerina has just dared me I CANNOT complete it
To say I think I CAN is an exaggeration but i have decided I will try. So here is the fun bit - from your comfortable chair I invite you to put some money down and VOTE (in the comments section), either:
- Yes Dan CAN complete 42km, his first ever marathon
- No Dan CANNOT complete it and must have had too much sun
Facts to help you choose:
- I don’t like running and never have
- I have never run even half the distance required, let alone in a desert environment
- It starts at 6am, an hour i am accustomed to being asleep
- There are no cheering crowds to spur me on, I expect only a few local kids staring in wonder at the crazy red faced foreigner making strange wheezing sounds
- My lungs have been living in Cairo for the last 18months with air pollution worse than smoking
- I have had Cairo’s equivalent of Delhi Belly this week and not sure if better yet
The great thing is that either way money will be going to an inspirational charity I am proud of working with: NWZDT. We are a rural development NGO creating change in a remote corner of Zambia. Check out this 1.5min video on Youtube to see some of our work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIJCoL8ITco
Huge thanks for any support, positive or negative!
Dan
ps. if encouraging pain is not your thing, feel free to dare me to remove the moustache J
