I am running the Manchester 10K for the Royal British Legion · 14 April 2013

The RBL are the UK's leading charity providing financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served and are currently serving in the British Armed Forces and their dependents.

Story

I am running the Manchester 10k on the 26 of May for The Royal British Legion and it is great the RBL are able to do this in conjunction with Britain's leading military Mental Health charity Combat Stress.

The Royal British Legion is the UK's leading provider of welfare to the Ex-forces community and through their extensive support, the Legion are able to provide assistance to those with conflict related disabilities, financial and career based advice for those in transition or a Veteran, along with legal and family based support.

The Legion also do some amazing work, which is often unrecognised, as money from the RBL goes direct to supporting other ex-Forces charities like Combat Stress & Blind Veterans UK, to ensure the best quality care is given for when a Veteran is in need.

The Royal British Legion are only able to carry through this essential and often life saving work, as a result of donations which come to the Legion through the Poppy Appeal but a little known secret is, the Royal British Legion do not limit their fundraising to once a year at Remembrance time but Legion members and staff alike, are constantly active in making sure the Poppy Appeal is forever present in the community 365 days a year.

For the Manchester 10K run, I am setting myself a target time of 45 minutes, which I am determined to achieve, as an inexperienced runner. I am also really excited about raising funds for the Legion, being able to raise awareness as to how the Legion can benefit others and hopefully encourage people to also join me in getting involved with RBL activities!

Having family members and close friends who have served in Iraq and are serving in Afghanistan, this has inspired me further to do the Manchester 10K for the Royal British Legion and I hope that you will show your support to me, by donating just a few pounds, to help me successfully accomplish my run.
