Story
So, I seem to have set myself the challenge of completing a half marathon on Sunday 21stJuly 2019.
I originally decided to do this as a personal challenge…
It was New Years Day and I guess I got caught up in the ‘New Year/New Me’ thing. I’m sure I could have chosen something else, or at least waited until the end of January and potentially changed my mind. But, I didn’t, and so here we are.
In addition to the personal challenge I'd now like to try and raise a small amount of money for a worthy and important charity; Prevent Breast Cancer and also to raise awareness of #Feelonthe4th.
#Feelonthe4th is an initiative created by my friend Sophie West.
Sophie was diagnosed with Breast Cancer on the 4th July 2017. Since then, she’s been through it all, chemo, hair loss, mastectomy, radiotherapy and reconstruction, but she came through still smiling.
I can honestly say I don’t know one other person with the sheer positivity, determination and dignity that Sophie has.
She is pure inspiration. She is the bravest person I know.
Sophie created #Feelonthe4th to encourage us all to check ourselves every month, not just when we hear someone’s story.
Did you know that breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK? One person is diagnosed every 10 minutes.
Did you know that 1 in 8 women in the UK will develop breast cancer at some point during their life?
Early detection saves lives and it saved Sophie's life.
I'll be running (walking/crawling) wearing #Feelonthe4th to spread the message a little bit further and any donation towards Prevent Breast Cancer would be hugely appreciated. They are the only UK breast cancer charity funding ground-breaking research solely aimed at preventing the disease for future generations.
I’ve never ran anywhere close to this distance before and I’ve not exactly nailed the training. Will I finish it? I’m not sure, but I will give it my all and if I can run with an ounce of Sophie’s determination, I’m sure I’ll make it to the finish line.
