Trek Iceland · 22 June 2010

Aims2Cure finances research into finding a cure for Multiple Sclerosis at leading institutions in the UK. In 2007 Aims2Cure established The Michele Elster Fund to help improve the lives of people with MS and alleviate the obstacles everyday living may present.

Story

Yup, you are reading and have heard correctly........for 5 days in June I am going on a Trek.......although due to the Volcanic eruptions and possibilities of more, Trek Iceland has become Trek Transylvania!!! However, my aim to raise as much money as I can for Aims2Cure, a charity with the sole aim of raising money for Multiple Sclerosis (MS), has not changed.

The waterproofs will remain, but the fleeces have been swapped for shorts and the Gloves for Cloves of Garlic as we Trek 'The Bucegi Mountains', home of the infamous Count Dracula himself! Our trek includes difficult trekking, summiting the 2,238m Limestone peak of La Om in the 'Kings Rock National Park', home to approx 5000 Bears, 3000 Wolves and 2000 Lynx - I'm kinda thinking we should have taken our chances with Lava!!!

To tell you a little bit more about Aims2Cure – they are a registered charity, established in 1999, who finance research into finding a cure for MS at The Institute of Neurology and The Institute of Cell and Molecular Science, both in London. In 2007 Aims2Cure set up The Michele Elster Foundation to help fund MS sufferers directly with their everyday lives.  The late Michele Elster was an MS sufferer who tragically lost her life to the disease in 2006. To date, Aims2Cure have raised over £650k to try and eradicate one of the most common neurological diseases amongst young adults, currently affecting around 85,000 people in the UK. It is possible for MS to occur at any age and to any of us (in most cases symptoms are first seen between the ages of 20 and 40) - it is not contagious and it is not inherited. For more information on Aims2Cure and MS, please see the Aims2Cure Website:- www.aims2cure.org.uk

You will see that I have set myself a target of £4,000 and really would be appreciative if you could help me reach it. I know times are hard at the moment, but any help is a great help.

Again, I would be very grateful for any support you may be able to give to finding a cure into the unbearable disease that is Multiple Sclerosis.

Thank you in advance.

Darren
