Story

A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who has sponsored me, I am very pleased to report that I completed the 2011 London Marathon in 4hours 39 mins 53 secs. I finished in 18,784 place; although 1,891 in my age range :-) The last 5 miles felt like 100, but the crowd kept me going. Such a great day and such a great cause. As you can see from the picture I had a good team with me, who tracked me all the way around, seeing them at miles 8, 15, 17, 19 & 24 definitely kept me running :-)

Strangest point of the day was on the tube on the way home. We sat down opposite a big bloke who asked who Darren Whitney was (Woody pictured right) was still carrying the sign. He then gave me £20 and said its not everyday you meet someone with the same name! The other Darren Whitney plays in the denfensive line for the London Olmpyians (American Football) - cheers for the donation!

Anyway just a final thank you from me, Sarah and all at the LAM charity, your donations really will make a difference.

LAM (or to give it its full name lymphangioleiomyomatosis) is a rare disease which only affects women. The condition mainly affects the lungs which are progressively destroyed over a number of years. This leads to increasing breathlessness, lung collapse and can be fatal. Currently there is no cure for LAM and little in the way of treatment.

LAM Action is a registered UK charity that raises money to fund research into the causes of, and potential treatments for LAM. As it is such a rare disease little research is currently being done by drug companies, so if a cure is to be found, it will only come through the vital work of this charity. LAM Action also provides an invaluable support network to sufferers and their families.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
