Cancer Research Wales - Welsh Three Peaks Challenge · 25 May 2012 ·

Cancer Research Wales funds cutting edge research in Wales into the early diagnosis, better treatment and preventatives of cancer. It's world leading, and it's local. We give hope to cancer patients and their families.

Story

Hi All,

Just to let you know that the Three Peaks challenge was completed on Saturday by myself and five colleagues which just happened to be the hottest day of the year!!

A 4.30am start at the bottom of Snowdon, following our brief from the British Military, and we completed (up and down) in 3hrs 38mins.

After a 90minute journey to Cadair Idris we completed the next climb in unbearable heat in just over 3 hours. Way ahead of schedule but with shade from the sun nowhere to found – it was a case of up and down as quickly as we could and collapse at the bottom!

A 3 hour mini bus drive to South Wales, and through gritted teeth, Pen Y Fan was completed in just under 2 hours and we crossed the finish line at 8.04pm.

A magnificent achievement by the ‘Pensord 6’, as we are now known, and I don’t mind saying a had a little tear in my eye at the end.

Thanks for everyone’s support via good luck messages and donations.

Amazing support - so just upped my target! Thank you all for providing huge motivation :-)

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Cancer Research Wales is close to the heart of all of the People at Pensord as our chosen charitable cause and is of particular significance in my household.

My wife Claire, who is 32 has already lost two very close friends to cancer. Lizzie Watkins passed away in November 2006 and Claire's best friend Lisa Price passed away in March 2007 aged 35. Two fun loving beautiful people with their lives cut short by cancer.

Having witnessed first hand the devastation this tragic illness can cause to the loved ones left behind work must continue to find a cure and Cancer Research Wales are doing just that.

Their groundbreaking research is astounding and they are convinced given enough time and financial support they will achieve their goals.

So what is this Three Peaks Challenge i've set myself up for?

At first light on the morning of Saturday 26th May 2012 we will set off from the base of Mt.Snowdon and climb its 1085m. We then descend a lot more quickly than we climbed and travel to Cader Idris, also in Snowdonia, and climb its 892m. This is followed by picturesque journey through mid Wales to Pen Y Fan, the highest peak in the Brecon Beacons, and with tired limbs and aching feet we attempt the final 886m - all in the same day!

I just pray that it's dry and there are bacon sarnie stops!
