I am running the London Marathon 2010 to celebrate the life of my friend Melissa and to raise money for LAM Action. Melissa lost her battle to LAM at the end of 2008 and would think me crazy to run 26 miles for her!
LAM (short for Lymphangioleiomyomatosis) is a rare disorder which affects women only, and is generally diagnosed in women of childbearing age. The condition mainly affects the lungs, where it causes excessive growth of smooth muscle tissue which progressively erodes lung function. LAM is a rare lung disease that only occurs in women. It affects just over one person in a million and we are aware of 120 women in the United Kingdom who have LAM. It appears to occur world-wide and is equally rare in other countries.
For more information regarding LAM please visit http://www.lamaction.org/
I am on a strict training regime running at least 3 times a week with my running partners Bruce and Buddy, they're great pacemakers always a quarter of a mile ahead in all directions!
Thanks for taking the time to visit my page, raising money for LAM Action means a lot to me and don't forget to check me out on Sunday 25th April 2010 (I'll be the one sucking a polo with my new mates at the St John's Ambulance)
