Like all fantastic stories, this one starts with alcohol as well.. I belong to a charity organisation called the BC Club.. We as a group raise purely for local causes that are close to our hearts, each cause suggested by a member.. At a charity day out this year the idea of the London to Brighton off-road mountain bike ride was suggested as a means to further support Julia's House, a local charity that do sterling work! I'd consumed alcohol, owned a mountain bike so naturally I shouted YES as loudly as I could.. The day continued with much excitement about the forth coming monumental ride..
My excitement for this ride has since dwindled slightly, for a couple of reasons.. I like mountain biking, I like the sort of mountain biking where you get in a van with your bike and a nice man drives you to the top of a mountain or large hill, and you ride down, eat a sausage roll and talk about how gnarly you are.. And then get back in the van and go back up to the top of the hill. Also I recently rode for nearly 30 miles and was convinced at mile 25 that I'd need surgery to have the bike removed.. In short if I ever was considered to be a type of athlete, it wouldn't be in the endurance category..
So... friends, family, colleagues, people I don't know.. Would you please consider donating a small amount of money to this massively worthy cause as the money I raise will be my main motivation for riding the 75 miles..
