Story

Updated on Jul 24th 2011 at 5:35 PM from the JustGiving API

This is a message from the present Commandant General Royal Marines, Brigadier Paul Denning RM .... Ignore the first paragraph; this is not about me it's about the lads in Afghan... Chaps, I saw Dave at the CTCRM Familes Day yesterday. He does the Iron Man next weekend. He is absolutely shagged, to use the vernacular. I take my hat off to him. I am doing a sponsored cycle ride to Paris in Sep and thought that was doing something useful but it pales into insignificance compared to what he is doing. If you have not yet done anything about it but had meant to, please do it now. The cause is relevant to us all. In my job as DCGRM I have been to 17 funerals over the past 2 years and visited more than 150 seriously injured men and dealt with their families. They need our help and will continue to do so in the future. What Dave and many others are doing for the RM Charitable Trust Fund will make a real difference to our ability to support them in the future. I know many of you have already given and are doing your own things to help, so my thanks to you all. Don't forget, if you are thinking to yourselves, I must do something about this .... do it now. Paul

With only 19 days to go to try and reach my £6000 target, along with the painful training hours I'm putting in, I urge you to help out by donating to these worthy causes, I'm doing the hard bit, so please help out- no matter how small it all helps. :)

Come on, if you haven't already then dig deep! Just because we haven't heard much on the news about Royal Marines on Afghan, they do still need your support. I'm doing the horrible physical bit, you just need to give a few quid. :-)

Updated on Jul 10th 2011 at 9:48 PM from the JustGiving API

With three weeks to go, the training's going well, lost a fair bit of weight which I didn't need to do, but never mind! However my target of £6000 for charity is looking doubtful, unless some more of you fancy helping? Text DAVE71 £5 to 70070 or click on this link. Thank you :-)

22 days to go.

27 days to go.... Parp!!!

27 days to go!!! Parp.... It's armed forces day, show your support and put a couple of quid in the sponsorship, or send a text to 70070 DAVE71 £2 I know a lot have already donated, but just s couple of quid more will go a long way. 3 Commando Brigade are still fighting out there, support them.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Well, what can I say? I've basically gone and entered the UK Ironman Triathlon, which is a 2.4 mile swim immediately followed by(if I haven't drowned) a 112 mile bike followed by a 26.2 mile run! Yes it's going to hurt A LOT! In fact is already hurting, the training is relentless, especially since I've only given myself 15 weeks to prepare!
However, the pain I'm going through is nothing compared to the pain, stress, injuries and for some the ultimate sacrifices that the men of 3 Commando Brigade Royal Marines are going through every day in Afghanistan. They are there RIGHT NOW on OPERATION HERRICK 14, fighting in the harsh and hostile conditions of that notorious warzone. It doesn't end when they come back, for some it just begins.
The Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund (RMCTF) is the overarching Royal Marine charity and money raised can be used for very wide purposes, probably the widest of any service charity.
The RMCTF helps in many ways, including:
Recovery Pathway
Helping the wounded and injured in any way we can, particularly as the most severely injured begin their transition into civilian life; quite simply, the RMCTF will help when others cannot.
Decompression/Quality of Life Pathway
Helping those still serving and facing successive tours in high threat environments - providing adventure training for those returning from operations, funding homecoming events, financing memorials, maintaining our heritage etc.
Through Life Pathway
Continuing the same level of support and care once the beneficiaries break their formal links to the Corps.
Sadly, but importantly, the RMCTF also provides a grant to the next of kin of those who die in service within 48 hours of the event.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now. :-) Thank you.

Updated on Jun 9th 2011 at 10:40 PM from the JustGiving API

Target now £4000. Spoke to Capt Steve Marr RM, charity coordinator for RMCTF and they are extremely busy dealing with 'incidents' in Afghanistan, things we don't hear on the news. Whilst we sleep at night, Commandos are on the ground in Afghan doing extremely dangerous work on our behalf. Show your support.

Thank you very much to my mate Mick Cowan who gave me 50 quids worth of dodgy looking Irish notes! I've added it to the funds via my bank account, hope it's not laundering!! ;-)

Just wanted to say a big thank you to all those who have sponsored me on here, £820 in a week is amazing! Just shows how much people care about the welfare of the young Royal Marines fighting in Afghanistan right now with 3 Commando Brigade. My training is going well, although with only 13 weeks to go I'm still going to suffer! All those who haven't sponsored yet, I'm sure you have your reasons and I respect that, but just dig deep and even if you stick £1 in I'll be grateful, it all makes a difference! Times are hard for some, I know, but times will be harder for some of them young Marines.
