The Christie charity provides enhanced services over and above what the NHS funds. Your support can help us to fund life-changing and potentially life-saving projects that will benefit cancer patients both now and in the future.

Story

On the 17th and 18th of June, I'll be hopping on my bike and joining a group of Christie and UCLH riders departing from the site of the Christie Proton Beam Therapy Centre in South Manchester and cycling to the UCLH Proton Beam Therapy centre in Central London - some 200 miles away.

All of the riders from each site are staff, contractors or other stakeholders in the NHS national Proton Beam Therapy Programme, which will make an advanced form of radiotherapy available to patients within the UK for the first time.

You may well remember the case of Ashya King, whose parents were initially arrested when they took their son out of an NHS hospital to seek the best possible treatment (Proton Beam Therapy) abroad as it wasn't available in the UK.  The Christie and UCLH centres will be the first in the UK to provide this cutting edge treatment, primarily for children and young adults, and any money raised will go towards providing additional equipment and services to benefit the patients during their treatment.
