If you've ever seen a loved one fade away in front of your eyes, you know how valuable good palliative care is to the family. Helping raise money to support other families is why we are doing this.

The last sponsorship event I did was in 1987 so I'm well overdue for another one. Now I'm not into long runs or climbing many a mountain, and I take my hat off to all of you that do those things.

I saw this event last year, thought it was different and more importantly, it made me smile.

So this year, I'm literally taking the plunge as well. If we get enough people I may also be a world record holder!!

Am I worried about the efffect of the cold weather? No, I'm more worried that my Mum is doing it with me!

We are doing this event in honour of my Nan. She passed away four years ago and there's not a day goes by when I don't miss her. She had some wonderful care in her last days (from a local hospice) and they gave great support to my Mum, Sue and Uncle and Aunt.

It's also in memory of the parents my friends have lost to cancer - Jim, Joyce, Mary, Steve, Ted & Carl.
