In recent months, having seen the effect illness can have on victims and their families, I've become aware of just how lucky I am and how others are not so fortunate. My friend and colleague Roy Bishop was diagnosed with cancer last year and is facing very tough times. My sister Jo has had M.S. for many years and is now severely disabled.

I'm fed up with feeling helpless so have decided to do something positive (and possibly mad!) and am going to swim the length of Lake Windermere (10 miles) on the weekend of 8th/9th September.
