We are the charity of Leeds Teaching Hospitals. We support NHS staff to deliver the best care for over a million patients and their families each year. Donations fund life-saving equipment, treatments, research and home comforts. Whatever will make the biggest impact to the people who need it most.

Story

My niece Phoebe was born with a liver disorder which threatened her life and affected the lives of all of our family in one way or another.

Thanks to the professionals at St James's Hospital (Jimmy's) in Leeds, Phoebe was given a liver transplant and has developed into the cheeky little madam she was destined to become.

This year I have been in Kenya and summitted the mountain on numerous occasions, usually taking between 3 and 4 days at a time.  To give a little something back to "Jimmy's"  I am planning to run from Old Moses (10,000ft) to Point Lenana (17,000ft) and back to the Naro Moru Gate of the Mt Kenya National Park (7,500ft) in 12 hours or less.

I DID IT!!  On Friday 4 Dec 09 at just after 0600hrs, I set off with the summit in my sights, soon to be blocked by cloud and heavy snow, I stopped for a short while at Shiptons Camp to put some warmer clothes on before setting off for the summit.  I reached the summit by 1130hrs and despite being quite literally.....All Down Hill From There......The terrain was very hard going, the snow turned into rain and the "Vertical Bog" was more like a waterfall.  Undeterred by the foul weather and falling on my backside numerous times I managed to reach the National Park Gate at Naro Moru in a time of 10hrs 38mins.

Quotes I have received:

" Dave, You are a machine"   -  Friends and Colleagues

"Dave, You are totally crazy!!!!"   Kenyan Mountain Guides and Porters

Crazy or Brave,  I am proud to say that I have done it and if I also may say so, done it well.
