<p>I'm swimming a mile for Malawi.&nbsp; Sponsor me!</p> <p>The charity I work for, the Chauncy Maples Malawi Trust, are renovating the ship <em>Chauncy Maples</em> on Lake Malawi to serve as a clinic to the villages along the coast of the lake.&nbsp;</p> <p>There is an acute lack of access to healthcare in Malawi, with villagers on the lake having to travel by dug-out canoe for many miles, risking storms and crocodiles, to access healthcare.&nbsp; There are no roads to most of these villages, and few vehicles.&nbsp; HIV, measles, infant and maternal mortality, TB; these are all serious problems.</p> <p>So I'm putting my money where my mouth is, to swim a symbolic mile for Malawi.&nbsp; A mile is 64 and a bit lengths of a normal swimming pool - not an easy distance for me and one I've only done once before, when I was a little lighter.&nbsp; I will be doing my mile, and maybe more if I can, at Temple Cowley Pools and Fitness Centre in Oxford at 9.30am on Sunday 18th September.</p> <p>If you wish to join me you are most welcome, and Chauncy Maples would really appreciate the extra sponsorship!&nbsp; It's a general swimming time but hopefully I've chosen a quiet period.&nbsp; But whether you join me or not, I hope you feel inspired to sponsor me and play a small part in bringing better healthcare to Malawi.</p>
