Thanks for taking the time to visit our wedding list page. Our friend Brad who works for Human Rights Watch has summarised their work as follows:   For many years, Human Rights Watch has maintained a limited emergency assistance fund for human rights defenders who are in imminent danger as a result of their human rights activism. After the tragic and untimely death of our colleague Alison Des Forges in February 2009, we decided to name this fund in her honor. Alison was a famous campaigner for justice after the 1994 genocide in Rwanda and a recipient of the MacArthur Foundation "genius" award.  We make grants to help human rights defenders out of dangerous locales, assist with initial living expenses once they have relocated, or provide money for medical care if they have suffered ill-treatment because of their work. We have assisted people all over the world, such as Afghan women, Tamils in Sri Lanka, and Chinese activists. We may also assist direct family members of affected human rights defenders if they, too, have to flee a threatening situation. In all cases, we will require the requesting staff member to confirm that the defender is at real risk of reprisals because of their human rights activities. We have in the past run out of emergency funds and have had to decline requests even when they have met all criteria.   Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
