Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running the 2010 London Marathon for People with Tuberous Sclerosis as I have seen first hand how this cruel condition can affect a person and their family. My Cousin Paul started having seizures when he was 3 months old, but was only diagnosed with TS when he was 7 years old. Paul is now 36 years old, the same age as me but our lives are very different, I am married with a family and live a full and active life and although Paul is well cared for unfortunately he has no control over his own life and needs 24 hour care.
This is the first time I have ever attempted anything like this and I know it will be the hardest and most challenging things I will ever do in my life, but Paul's whole life has been a constant challenge, so I want to do this to give something back, by raising money for new research whilst raising awareness.
Tuberous Sclerosis can cause tumours to grow anywhere in the body. Tumours often grow in the developing brain of babies and children causing epilipsy, autism, attention problems and learning difficulties: often blighting their childhood with severe disabilities.
Even those people who make it through childhood without too many difficulties still live each day with the threat that tumours could be growing right now in their kidneys, lungs or other vital organs with serious and sometimes life threatening implications.
The Tuberous Sclerosis Association (TSA) leads the world in the research it funds and is now embarking on the next stage to successful treatments and a possible cure. TSA is a 'lifeline' and can 'open the door' to services and support offering better management of TSC, greater research and understanding - providing a 'gateway' to the future.
