As I am sure some of you know, I have taken up cycling again, mainly to keep fit and hopefully lose some weight!!!

It all started with a gentle Sunday morning ride, maybe cycling 10 or so miles on nice gentle terrain. A couple of friends decided to join me for these gentle jaunts. On one of these rides we bumped into a few cyclists who were training for a ride, and they suggested we join them AN HOUR EARLIER than normal at the Village hotel. The thing that swung it for us was the promise of a nice cup of coffee before we started.

Anyway off we went for a gentle 30mile ride - and that was it - my pal Simon Fox was hooked, and then one of them suggested we join them on the bike ride in aid of Norwood, I laughed - worryingly Simon didn’t! And that’s when the nagging started and Simon insisted we set out on this endeavor. I tried to explain that a 30 mile bike ride through the mean streets of Radlett, and Potters Bar hardly compares with cycling for 5 days solid in the intense heat for over 50 miles a day surviving on decidedly dodgy food, the huge chance of dodgy stomachs and less than luxurious accommodation! But sadly if anyone knows Simon, they know he doesn’t take no for an answer - so the next thing I Know, is I am in! Then  I told him about how difficult fundraising will be in these financially challenging times, he assured me that in view of how important Norwood is as a charity, and the incredible generosity of my friends would overcome these difficulties, and I should just concentrate on the training as it will be a tough week. Norwood do great work for the less fortunate members of our community, and as I have not done any fund raising for several years, I feel that I can ask you all to help.

So in view of all this I sincerely hope you will all help me raise as much as I possibly can, as much as I know it will be a great week, I am not getting any younger or lighter so it will be a truly challenging adventure.

PLEASE GIVE GENEROUSLY!

Thanks in advance.

Dave
