Story
Thank you for visiting my Just Giving page, please read on!
I plan to do a very special ride in September this year. With a group of intrepid (Mad?) enthusiasts, all brought together by the Inspire Living group, we will set off from Winchester to Portsmouth (The “easy bit!”), take the ferry over to St Malo (we hope the “smooth bit”), then ride through France (via Bordeaux), over some hills (I think they call them the Pyrenees?), fork right through Spain to Madrid and down on to Gibraltar. (The “you’re riding to where??” bit).
Yes, 1250 miles in 14 days, so nearly 100 miles a day. Ouch!
Next question, “Why?” This is a sponsored cycle ride in aid of Cancer Research UK. Via a group called Inspired Living. You can visit their site to see all the details. www.inspiredliving.org.uk/
Cancer, unfortunately, touches all our lives. (Just stop for a minute and list all the folk YOU know who have been blighted by this terrible disease. I started with my family, my lovely wife Jean, sister-in-law, Aunt, then close friends, work colleagues....and ended with Lance Armstrong! (I don’t know him personally but apparently he’s a thoroughly nice bloke and, like me, he rides a bike too! (A bit!)). Listing all these people is a very salutary lesson and a frightening statistic. How many did you list?
Well, here’s your chance to do something for all those that you listed, and the millions that you don’t know personally, that are living, and some sadly dying, with cancer.
I’m doing the “hard bit”, 1250 miles on my bike! And I’d love you to sponsor me, via this Just Giving link (the “very easy bit!”). Doing it that way means that we might be able to get the tax back which adds to the pot. Really, it is VERY easy!
I very much appreciate that we are going through “tough times!”, economically, but let’s never forget those worse off than us, so please “dig deep!”, every pound counts and will make a difference! My goal is to raise £1,000.00 for this fantastic organisation. Please help in any way you can (I need the encouragement to get over those “hills”!).
Having said all that, I’m now worried, very, very worried!
Much love & very best wishes
David.
(Lance Armstrong says 28 million people worldwide live with cancer; together we can beat this disease. Livestrong! )
