SHIVA Charity's main objective in Nepal is to promote education, by building and maintaining schools, installing clean drinking water and providing teacher training. The charity was founded in 1995 and has worked hard to improve the quality of education for the children of Nepal..

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In Autumn 2009 I fly to Kathmandu for a 14 day trek in the Himalayas. The culmination of the trek (weather & feet permitting) should be an ascent of Kala Pattar, a peak that overlooks Everest & Everest Base Camp.

A number of people have asked if I could be sponsored, so I would like to raise funds for the SHIVA charity.

SHIVA charity supplies funds for various education projects in Nepal & Northpoint School, Bhaktapur, Nepal.

The teachers & principal are devoted to their school & their jobs, but it will have to close if they cannot raise enough money to pay staff or buy books & equipment.

The school needs about £1000 a year to help as many of the parents can't afford the fees.

£1000 may not sound much to us but in Nepal it is a fortune, and can make a huge difference to the future prospects of the local people.

Mountain Kingdoms, the company I will be travelling with, are hoping to build a science lab & library at a cost of £9000 & your donation will go towards this project.

SHIVA charity does excellent work in promoting education, something we tend to take for granted, in Nepal & Sri Lanka

More information on SHIVA can be found at http://www.shivacharity.org

Please give generously to this very worthwhile project

(My thanks to Mountain Kingdoms for their kind permission to use the photos of Everest & Namche Bazaar& the children of Northpoint school)
