On the 16th of January 2010 Helen, Catherine and David Bull will be setting off to Ulamba in western Kenya in conjunction with Moving Mountains Trust to set up a mini farm for the children of the Ulamba Orphanage.
With help from locally employed tradesmen the project will involve the construction of a small shelter for a cow, and the erection of a Lion proof fence and shelter for the chickens. Preparation is already under way as Maurice, the head teacher of a local secondary school is seeking out a potential cow.
This is designed to be a sustainable project that will not only provide the children with a valuable source of protein and calcium, but also feed a small amount of cash back into the orphanage with the sale of excess produce. In addition, it will be a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn how to rear and manage livestock.
The two main fund raising events will be a Sponsored Toddle on the 21/11/09 organised by Alice Bull and a Sponsored Horse Ride at White Horse Trekking Centre on the 31/12/09.
