Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Just wanted to update you all and let you know that i finally did my sky dive last week 12th Feb as was cancelled due to weather on the 4th.

It was an amazing experience even though the thought of chucking myself out of a plane did seem quite daunting. Falling out of a plane at 120 mile an hour free fall was something i'll never forget! Even though initially it was a challenge i did enjoy the jump and it is definatly something i would now like to do again. We have been overwhelemed by peoples generosity and have so far in total raised a massive £1700, thank you to everyone who sponsored me xx

I AM RAISING MONEY FOR PORTSMOUTH QUEEN ALEXANDRA HOSPITAL NEONATAL DEPARTMENT.

On the 5th February 2011 I have set myself a personal challenge of doing a sky dive to raise money for the Neonatal unit that saved our daughters life.

My daughter Phoebe was born on 12th October 2009 at 26 weeks. It was a huge shock when we were told that the pains Anna was having was labour as being only 6 months pregnant it was the last thing we were expecting. We initially travelled to Dorchester Hospital where the doctors on duty tried to stop the labour but as our baby would be 14 weeks early we were sent to Porstmouth hospital for more specialised care and that is where our journey began.

Phoebe weighed only 2lb1oz at birth and was put on a ventilator straight away. To our amazement she managed to come off the ventilator after just 24 hours as was capable of breathing by herself however she needed a machine called C-PAP that blew air down into her lungs to help keep them open. This meant that Phoebe didnt have to work quite so hard. The Doctors were amazing and after lots of monitoring started to wean her off the machine by giving her small amounts of time breathing on her own. Unfortunatly Phoebe found this quite difficult and struggled doing it all by herself. Whilst in hospital the nurses had to take blood from her constantly to check the oxygen levels in her blood and being so small she didn't have much to give. Phoebe needed to have 3 blood transfusions and also had a number of infections which gave us more worrying moments

Seeing our baby so small in a big incubator was very scary and frightening. Phoebe was in a ward with 6 other babies all in similiar situations and it was very daunting but the nurses were amazing. They were always there when we needed them and would always explain exactly what was happening to Phoebe and what we should expect. The Doctors always came round twice a day to review Phoebes condition and explain to us what they would do and what would happen next, they reassured us and made us feel that we were in safe hands.

We had many ups and downs during the 2 months Phoebe was in their care. She stopped breathing twice and needed resusitating but the nurses and Drs were so professional and competent that they dealt with every situation calmly and efficiently.  Eventually Phoebe was strong enough to be transfered to Dorchester Hospital where she spent another month befre finally coming home.

We have no doubt that without the expert knowledge, dedicated care and invaluable support of all the staff and facilities in the NICU our beautiful daughter may not be here today.  The Dr's, nurses and all the support staff give every tiny premature or ill baby such amazing care under the most challenging circumstances and all the funds raised really will help not only the babies but the parents and families who are going through a similar rollercoaster journey as we did.
