Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am walking cross country circuits in Hampshire and travelling the length of the Kennet & Avon Canal from Reading to Bath in incremental stages, to benefit others through our collective donations to the Prostate Cancer Charity. I would be delighted if you would help me by giving a donation.
In return, I offer you my thanks and my pictures, videos & vignettes of the sights, sounds and experiences encountered as I go.
Whether you have come via facebook or my blog at www.daviddibben.blogspot.com, you may be aware that I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer, out of the blue one sunny day in the summer of 2011. The shock was tremendous, but so has been the ongoing support of family, friends and colleagues to whom I am most grateful. Likewise the medical team that have seen, advised, treated & supported me throught this unsought for journey.
Now, several months on from the major operation that removed 95% of the cancer, I have a regular and Persistent Physiotherapy Programme designed to get me back to fitness and enable the essential Radiotherapy later this year.
A part of this programme involves cross-country walking.
I have walked over 330 miles in circles around Hampshire, Surrey & Berkshire since the operation, for the benefit of my health.
I thought it would now be interesting to supplement that purpose & activity, with an objective to walk the Kennet & Avon canal, by incremental stages from Reading to Bath. A distance of almost 100 miles, at least it is the way I walk !.
Then I thought, why not also do all this walking to benefit others as well as helping me to get fit.
Hence, my invitation to you to sponsor me and help others, by donating as I walk.
This horrible and often hidden cancer needs awareness to be raised, because detected early enough the better it can be addressed. So, please chaps, get yourself tested.
Whenever it is diagnosed, both the patient and the wider family need support. The Prostate Cancer Charity is there for them

Finally, the more research funds that are available, the better the possible treatment available to address the cancer.
In return for your donations, not only will we be achieving the three objectives described above, but you will also benefit from seeing (and hearing) the sights and sounds of the English countryside as I post pictures and videos taken along the way on facebook and on my blog at www.daviddibben.blogspot.com.
As well as your donation, your comments and encouragement are always welcome....be good to hear from you.
