Story
Having completed the London to Paris cycle ride in 2016 for the Alzheimer’s Society, I had 2017 off from long rides but could not resist when Toby asked if I would be interested in riding the LEJOG in 2018.
We quickly decided we would want to do it to raise money for the Meningitis Research Foundation, a cause that is close to our hearts, as Toby and Kate’s youngest and my youngest nephew, Monty, had been hospitalised when very young, having contracted Meningitis. It was touch and go for a while, but thankfully he was able to pull through. Despite having to deal with hearing loss and other related health issues he is thriving and is an inspiration.
Meningitis is something that has also affected others in our group and doing this ride together is a great opportunity for us to raise awareness and more importantly funds for research.
970 miles in 9 days is definitely a challenge and some initial research identified that the route is neither downfall or even flat but appears to climb a number of hills, some of which look suspiciously like mountains? So... looks like a I am going to have to do a bit of training over the coming months to ensure that not only can I complete the ride but hopefully enjoy it!
Anything you can contribute will be greatly appreciated, we have all set individual targets to raise £2200 but hope to exceed this if possible.
Will keep you updated on training progress and may even post a few pictures of views from the bike rather than of me in Lycra, although these can be made available under the “premium” sponsorship package!
The ride is organised and supported by Deloitte Ride Across Britain, go their website www.rideacrossbritain.com if you wanted to learn more about the event or to pick your spot along the route to cheer us on?
