Latest news: DONE IT!!!
You may already be familiar with my superhuman ability to sleep under all circumstances (see the pictures of some of my finest achievements last year). Turns out I can also run, though not as brilliantly. To set myself a proper challenge for 2011 I decided to try my hand at doing the Paris marathon, persuaded and spurred on by my colleague/friend/training buddy Gabe.
Although I didn't set out with fundraising in mind, the sheer enormity of the challenge a marathon represents for my gimpy body (see following paragraph) means it's a good reason to raise money for a place which has done a lot for my family - Addenbrooke's hospital in Cambridge and in particular its neonatal intensive care unit, which needs more equipment.
Progress so far? I've had tendinitis in the knee, an arthritic right hip and more recently proceeded to strain my left buttock. If my body gets me over that finishing line it'll be some kind of miracle. But knowing I've got donations running on this will keep me going even if it's on my hands and knees. Or teeth and belly.
Latest news: I ran this on Saturday 19 March and lived to tell the tale.
Is a half marathon worth a few bob as well? I've just done this one and am proud to announce I can still walk.
As you can see the target is one hundred million pounds, so any donations will be greatly appreciated. I've made it so the amount you gave won't show up on the webpage - those of you wishing to donate a grand or two needn't worry about putting others to shame. Particularly appreciated would be anonymous/mystery identity donations - I've got in touch with a few good friends of mine who will reserve a special treat in those cases. Try it and see.
