Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I was very pleased to complete the BUPA 10K Manchester Run on Sunday 20 May 2012, but only just!

I finished the course in 63 minutes and 17 seconds, several minutes slower than my time last year!

That time put me in 18,710 position overall, out of 40,000.

My excuse is that I had a cold and chest infection, so I was just really pleased to finish the course at all!!

Thanks to my supporters on the day, Louise, Lucci and Rick who definitely helped me to get through the day.

We have so far raised over £500 (plus gift aid tax) for The Christie and Bolton Hospice, two very worthy causes who only get part of their funding from the NHS.

I was very impressed with the standard of care that Steven, my Son, received at The Christie and at Bolton Hospice. The staff and volunteers were very professional, caring and have a very difficult job to do.

A Big thank you to everyone who has already sponsored me this year and I know the money will be well used.

Thanks very much for your help.

Best regards.

David Haworth

My Name is David Haworth and my Son, Steven was diagnosed with Cancer at the end of November 2010 at the age of 29. The type of Cancer was Small Cell Cancer, a very aggressive type.

He needed two operations at Hope Hospital, Salford on his spine and neck and then he went to The Christie for his Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy sessions. The Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy didn't work and he was transferred to Bolton Hospice at the start of February. He had been kept informed at each stage and he knew the prognosis and how quickly things were moving on.

Steven died during the afternoon of his 30th birthday, on the 13th February 2011.

The staff at Hope Hospital, The Christie and Bolton Hospice were brilliant.

This is the second time that I will be taking part in the BUPA 10K Manchester run, which this year is on the 20th May 2012.

I am very keen to raise as much as I can for the The Christie and the Bolton Hospice, who rely heavily on donations to keep their services going .

It would be great if you could help me, by donating whatever you can, to make sure that these services are still available to other people in the future.
