Through many hours of "highbrow" debate between myself and Dave, the subject of charities and good causes was one that was rarely broached. Sense about Science, in my own personal experience, stands alone as a charity Dave was openly passionate about. It's the only issue about which I can recall him saying "It makes my blood boil." Well, maybe that and the sunday licensing hours.
They describe themselves thus:

We respond to the misrepresentation of science and scientific evidence on issues that matter to society, from scares about plastic bottles, fluoride and the MMR vaccine to controversies about genetic modification, stem cell research and radiation. We work with scientists and civic groups to promote evidence and scientific reasoning in public discussion.
Sense About Science depends on the goodwill of its supporters. We have a small staff and large remit: even small contributions make a difference."
