Many thanks to everyone who supported us in this race and helped to raise funds for family-run orphanages in Ukraine.

We have successfully finished ARC 2009 arriving to St. Lucia after 17 days 12 hours 38 min and 28 seconds of transatlantic sailing journey.  Our boat Amande, being a true lady, gave us a lot of a hard time but at the same time let us experience some most special moments.

We appreciate greatly all of your support during this trip.

If you have not yet donated but might consider contributing, we would really like to encourage you to do so and would appreciate a lot any possible help to let more ukrainian kids experience a childhood, a family atmosphere and, ultimately, be taken off the path of street life and criminal future.

We wish you all very Merry Christmas and all the best for New Year.

David, Laurent, Gilles and Lionel.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I've never done charity fundraising before neither I crossed the by boat!

With a little bit of luck and your support hopefully those two things are going to happen before this year comes to an end…

On 22nd of November 2009 myself with three friends Laurent, Gilles and Lionel are starting a transatlantic sailing boat race ARC 2009 from Grand Canaria to .

We are doing it as a charity race to support Ukraine Charity. It is a small and relatively young based organisation run exclusively by volunteers to support charitable causes in . So far, the Charity’s project involved financing and managing repair works in orphanages, purchase of medical equipment and sponsoring educational projects. More information can be found on http://www.ukrainecharity.org.uk/ All raised funds during the race will go sponsor family-run orphanages (FROs) in . What are FROs and why we are supporting them?

These would be families that adopting between 7 to 20 kids from state orphanages where more than 70 000 children are living at the moment in very poor conditions with a very limited state support.  Due to the orphanage bringing up conditions most of these kids are ending up on the street with any social programme to support them. They won’t effort to go to study or even basic accommodation. Most of them would turn into criminals or would go looking for illegal ways to survive.

The FROs, having no government support at all, are making a massive impact to the country. They providing a real family support and give a chance to those kids to have a childhood. They take responsibility to raise people legally and emotionally adopted to live a normal life.

Where our support goes?

The FROs we are helping are very modest income families with up to 15 adopted kids. We have chosen these families as they have been running as FROs for up to 10 years from now and are willing to continuo adopting more kids. There are a few basic domestic things that would massively improve their living conditions but due to extremely low incomes they can’t effort that.

These are:

New boiler

Washing machine

Room furniture (beds, wardrobes, shelves)

Mattresses

Beddings

Big kitchen table to accommodate 12 people

Kitchen stools

Gas cooker with oven

Fridge with freezer

Study desks

Bathroom equipment

And many more smaller items

Happy to provide more detailed info on your request.

I would really appreciate if you consider supporting this initiative!!

Many thanks!

David
