Story
Alzheimer’s Society is transforming the landscape of dementia forever.Until the day we find a cure, we will create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice.
Just a short note to explain my story.
My Father started acting a little strange by misplacing items around his home and repeating questions which he had only asked a short time before. After an appointment with the Doctor and an assessment by a specialized social team he was diagnosed with Dementia.
He started by having carers visit three times a day together with having various aids fitted around the house to make living a little easier.
As time progressed Daily living became more difficult and frustrating for him to manage on his own. Eventually he took up residence in a local care home in Newton Stewart where he received comfort and support.
As time progressed he became quiet and withdrawn and eventually passed away in March 2013.
I will remember that day for ever as for not only being the loss of my Dad, Albert, it was also the day of my 60th birthday !!
