Connect is a national charity for people living with aphasia (communication disability) which is often caused by stroke. Aphasia can strike anyone at any age and at any time. 1 in every 200 people in the UK lives with aphasia and each person experiences it differently. Some people cannot speak at all, some people have just a few words. It affects reading, writing and numbers. Aphasia can lead to lack of confidence, depression, social exclusion – and people can lose their connection with the world. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Our vision is a simple one, we want a world where people with aphasia can re-connect with life again. Find out more about how we do that at www.ukconnect.org

Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my new fundraising page.

This year I supported Connect again, with perhaps my most ambitious fundraising challenge yet, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. This is the highest mountain in Africa and the trek took me almost a full week. It was an incredible journey, culminating in a really tough final ascent. But the fantastic views at the top were absolutely worth it. I kept a blog of my progress which you can read here - http://www.ukconnect.org/david-robins-kilimanjaro-2012.aspx - and you can also have a look at some of my photos here - http://bit.ly/LBMSgz.

You can still sponsor me, so please make a donation to support my challenge and Connect.

Connect is a charity that I have been supporting for over 10 years, as a close friend of mine, Robert Thorling, has aphasia from a stroke suffered whilst we were on a skiing holiday. If you have the time, please watch the following short video to learn a bit more about Connect and how the organisation has helped Robert - http://www.ukconnect.org/viewourdvds.aspx.

Every eleven minutes in the UK, three people will have a stroke. One of them will lose the ability to communicate. This is called aphasia. It can happen to anyone of us at any time and in an instant can destroy lives. Connect offers a lifeline, helping people to build confidence and re-connect with life again.

With your backing we can help Connect to reach more people with aphasia and provide the support and therapy that has made such a difference to both Robert and many other’s lives.

Thank you.

Regards,

David Robins
