We provide a helpline, and webchat service to help prevent suicide in the UK

Story

A group from my work will be attempting the British 3 Peaks Challenge on 25th and 26th June 2015. This will be a year since a colleague Paul 'Charlie' Charman died, and we wanted to do something to remember him. As he loved the great outdoors we feel this is a fitting tribute to him.  And also we would like to help other people like him, to hopefully find an alternative to the sad route Charlie found himself on.

The charity we are raising money for is CALM; Campaign Against Living Miserably. It's a small charity which aims to raise awareness and provides a helpline for men to call, when they feel down or have hit a wall for any reason.  Although anyone can use the service, regardless of age or gender, they give you someone to talk to. In 2013 there were 6,233 suicides in the UK, of which 78% were men. That’s just over 13 male suicides every day.  Male suicide numbers are at a 15 year high, and suicide is now the biggest killer of men aged 20-45 in the UK.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate – saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Thank you.
